Finger placement:
- 5th string, 3rd fret — Ring finger → C
- 4th string, 3rd fret — Pinky/Middle finger → F
- 3rd string, 2nd fret — Index finger → A
- 2nd string — Open → B (#11)
- 1st string — Open → E (maj7)
- 6th string — Don’t play
So the notes are:
C – F – A – B – E
That’s 1 – 3 – 5 – maj7 – #11, with F as the root.
Why this shape is particularly nice
The two open high strings give you B and E, which create that characteristic bright, slightly dreamy maj7(#11) sound.
I’d actually recommend your shape for a chord lesson, because it’s considerably more approachable than the higher-position voicing I gave earlier.
One small finger adjustment: You can use ring finger on 5th string, pinky on 4th string, and index on 3rd string. This keeps the three fretted notes comfortable and leaves the 1st and 2nd strings completely open
